Fate of impeachment
Now that the impeachment complaint is already transmitted to the Senate, its fate is now in the hands of the Senator-judges who will be coming from the 19th and the 20th Congresses. When Senate President Chiz Escudero announced that the impeachment process will start on June 2, or after the new senators have been elected, the fate of this Constitutionally-provided political process is seen by many critics to be now in limbo. This is so because the composition of the new senators will decide the fate of the impeachment complaint. Whether President Marcos Jr. has a hand in this process is already a water under the bridge or moot and academic. This impeachment complaint is sure to change the choices of the people of the senators that they are going to vote than before it was filed and transmitted to the Upper Chamber. In fact, at this early, those senatorial and congressional bets who want to benefit from the impeachment issue are starting to make pronouncements in favor or against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. More are being expected to take place before the May 13, 2025 election day. All of these politicians are, of course, testing the waters, before they will take a noisy stand. Let’s all hope for the best of our country!
