Wife of Daraga Mayor Baldo files COC for mayoral post

Far from the usual sweet and shy image, Romella “Lhal” Apuli-Baldo, wife of Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo emerged as lady fighter who filed her certificate of candidacy for mayoral post along with her party mates under the Lakas-CMD on Tuesday.

Clad with white blouse and beige pants, Lhal, a first-time mother, emerged to be a lady fighter and slightly matured as she faced off their political supporters and mediamen during the press conference held at Daraga covered court.

Romella was accompanied by her mother in-law, Gloria Go-Baldo, an old-time businesswomen and exporter of abaca products, her brother in-law, Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin G. Baldo, sister-in-law Camalig Vice Mayor Maria Ahrdail “Ding” G. Baldo.

Romella, a graduate of legal management, vowed to continue her husband’s legacy and brand of public service, prioritizing healthcare services, social and basic services, women empowerment and promoting sustainable development.

When asked why she throw her hat in The political area, Lhal said that she decided to run following the clamor of the people after her husband Mayor Carlwyn Bando was put behind bars, accused over the assassination of Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe in December 22, 2022.

“I decided to run in response to the call to continue the good work of my husband. During his two years as mayor, he initiated many projects that have significantly contributed to the town’s development. I will continue to push the same advocacies and policies initiated by my husband if elected in next year’s midterm elections,” she said.

Mayor Baldo’s flagship programs include the Arangkada Banwa Mobile Lab and Clinic, the first mobile laboratory and diagnostic clinic in Bicol Region, which offers free healthcare services to the residents specifically in the far-flung areas and so the Arangkada Banwa Caravan, which brings vital government services such as social, medical, and legal aid to underserved communities. – BY RHAYDZ BARCIA
